Pittsford, New York – Residents are being encouraged to come together this Sunday for a community celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States. The event is designed to bring neighbors together through history, music, food, and family traditions while recognizing an important milestone in the nation’s story.

The E Pluribus Unum Community Heritage Picnic will take place on Sunday, June 28, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Spiegel Community Center Pavilion, located at 35 Lincoln Avenue. Organized by the Town and Village, the gathering aims to create an afternoon where people of all ages can reflect on the country’s heritage while celebrating the diversity that continues to shape their community.

One of the highlights of the event will be a public reading of the Declaration of Independence by local elected officials. Following the reading, attendees will be invited to participate in a community sing-along featuring well-known patriotic songs. Organizers have made a program available in advance that includes a QR code linking directly to the song lyrics, making it easy for everyone to join in.

Families are encouraged to bring their own picnic lunches along with lawn chairs or picnic blankets, as seating at the pavilion will be limited. The relaxed outdoor setting is intended to provide an opportunity for friends, neighbors, and newcomers to spend time together while honoring the values and traditions that unite the community.

The celebration will also place a special emphasis on family recipes and cultural heritage. Participants are invited to bring a copy of a favorite recipe that has been passed down through generations, prepared for holidays, or represents their family’s cultural background. By sharing these recipes, organizers hope to preserve a collection of stories and traditions that reflect the many backgrounds found within the community.

Submitted recipes will become part of the commemorative Pittsford E Pluribus Unum Cookbook, a keepsake being created to recognize the nation’s 250th anniversary. The cookbook is expected to showcase a wide range of family favorites while highlighting the different cultures and traditions that have helped shape the community over the years.

Those who cannot bring a recipe to the event will still have an opportunity to contribute. Recipes may be submitted online or mailed or delivered to Pittsford Village Hall at 21 North Main Street, Pittsford, NY 14534. Organizers ask contributors to include their name and address with each submission. Recipe collection will continue throughout the summer before the commemorative cookbook is published later this year.

Community leaders hope the picnic will not only celebrate the country’s past but also strengthen local connections by bringing people together around shared experiences, meaningful traditions, and a spirit of unity.
