E-bike rider suffers life-threatening injuries after hit-and-run crash on West Ridge Road in Rochester’s northwest side
Rochester, New York – A quiet Saturday night on the city’s northwest side turned into a serious emergency after an e-bike crash left one rider with life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
Rochester police say officers were called to West Ridge Road near Mount Read Boulevard at around 8:50 p.m. after reports came in about a hit-and-run collision involving an e-bike. When officers arrived, the scene already showed signs of a fast-moving incident that had ended in seconds but left lasting consequences.
Investigators later determined that two people were on an e-bike and had been stopped on the median along West Ridge Road. They were stationary when a vehicle traveling westbound along the roadway struck one of the riders. The impact caused severe injuries to the person who was hit.
The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene. Instead, police said the car fled immediately after the collision, leaving behind the injured rider and the second person who had been on the e-bike.
Emergency crews responded quickly. The injured rider was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where medical staff treated them for serious and life-threatening injuries. Officials have not released further details about the rider’s condition beyond the severity of the injuries.
The second person who had been on the e-bike was not reported to have suffered the same level of injury, though their condition was not immediately detailed by authorities.
Police continue to investigate what led up to the crash and are working to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. At this stage, no description of the fleeing car or its driver has been released.
West Ridge Road, a busy corridor on Rochester’s northwest side, has seen heavy traffic in the area where the crash occurred, especially during evening hours. Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have relevant information to come forward.
As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on piecing together the moments before and after the collision in hopes of identifying the driver responsible for leaving the scene and causing serious harm.
