New York State Police ask residents for help investigating stolen E-bike case in the town of Maine
New York – Authorities in New York are asking residents to help investigators piece together details surrounding the theft of an electric bicycle taken from a home in the town of Maine earlier this week.
The investigation is being handled by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation based in Endwell, which is continuing to gather information related to the incident and any suspicious activity that may be connected to it.
According to police, the E-bike was stolen from a residence at 2605 Main Street sometime between the evening of May 7 and the evening of May 8. Investigators later recovered the bike in the Miller Road area of Newark Valley, but the investigation remains active as troopers attempt to determine who was responsible and whether additional incidents may be linked.
While the bicycle itself has been found, authorities believe community assistance could play an important role in identifying the suspect or suspects involved. Investigators are specifically asking residents to report anything unusual they may have seen during the overnight hours near Main Street and Lewis Street.
Police said they are looking for information involving “a suspicious male walking or riding a black e-bike in the area.” Troopers are also urging local homeowners and businesses to review surveillance footage from security cameras that may have captured movement, vehicles, or individuals during the time frame connected to the theft.
The case has also drawn attention because investigators have received multiple reports from residents about suspicious overnight activity in the Town of Maine area in recent days. According to State Police, community members have described incidents involving someone allegedly checking parked vehicles during late-night hours.
Although authorities have not publicly confirmed whether those reports are directly tied to the stolen E-bike case, investigators are treating all related tips seriously as they continue gathering evidence and reviewing leads.
The investigation reflects a broader concern shared by many communities where thefts involving vehicles, bicycles, and unattended property often occur during overnight periods when neighborhoods are quieter and streets are less active. Police are reminding residents to remain alert, lock vehicles, secure valuables, and report suspicious behavior immediately.
Troopers emphasized that even minor details from witnesses could help establish timelines or identify patterns connected to the case. Surveillance footage from residential doorbell cameras, businesses, or passing traffic cameras could also prove useful in narrowing down movements in the area before and after the theft occurred.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with firsthand knowledge, video evidence, or observations connected to suspicious activity in the town of Maine to contact investigators directly.
Anyone with information is asked to contact New York State Police at Endwell at 607-754-2701.
