Free rabies vaccine drive-through clinic returns on May 14 2026 offering pet owners easy access to essential protection
Pittsford, New York – A familiar spring tradition is making its return, offering pet owners a simple way to protect their animals without leaving their cars. The annual Rabies Vaccine Free Drive-Through Clinic is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, 2026, giving residents a convenient and cost-free opportunity to keep their pets up to date.
Set to take place at the Town Highway Garage, located at 60 Golf Avenue, the clinic will run from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Organizers say the drive-through format has proven both efficient and safe in past years, allowing steady traffic flow while ensuring animals remain secure.
Pet owners are encouraged to bring dogs, cats, and ferrets for vaccination. While licensing rules differ, health requirements remain firm. “Although cats do not need to be licensed, NYS law requires that they be vaccinated against rabies.” Officials stress that safety measures will be strictly enforced throughout the event. Dogs must be kept on a short leash at all times—even when inside a vehicle—while cats and ferrets should remain in secure carriers.
Both one-year and three-year rabies vaccines will be offered. However, eligibility for the longer-term option depends on documentation. Pet owners who can present a valid previous rabies certificate may receive the three-year vaccine, while others will be provided with a one-year dose.
One of the clinic’s biggest advantages is its accessibility. There is no need for advance registration, making it easier for busy households to participate. For those seeking additional information, Animal Control is available by phone at 248-6240 to answer any questions ahead of the event.
Behind the scenes, the effort relies on strong collaboration. Local officials extended their appreciation to the Monroe County Health Department, whose support ensures the vaccines remain free for the community.
With warmer weather arriving and outdoor activity increasing, the clinic arrives at a crucial time. Rabies prevention remains a key public health priority, and this initiative offers a practical, no-cost solution for responsible pet care.
