Free Youth February brings families back to Seneca Park Zoo with a monthlong opportunity for kids to explore wildlife at no cost
Monroe County, New York – Families across Monroe County have a fresh reason to bundle up and head outdoors this winter. Seneca Park Zoo is once again welcoming back its popular “Free Youth February” program, giving families an affordable way to explore wildlife during one of the most active seasons of the year.
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced the return of the initiative, which runs through the end of February. Under the program, every adult who purchases a regular admission ticket can bring along up to five youth guests, ages 4 to 14, at no additional cost. Children ages 3 and under are always admitted free, making the offer especially appealing for families with younger kids.
“Free Youth February is all about giving families and our youngest residents the opportunity to learn, explore, and have fun at the Seneca Park Zoo,” said County Executive Bello. “By offering free admission for youth all month long, we’re making it easier for families to spend time together, spark curiosity about wildlife and conservation, and creating enjoyable memories – all without cost being a barrier.”

Zoo officials note that winter is often overlooked, even though it can be one of the most rewarding times to visit. Cold-weather animals tend to be more active in lower temperatures, offering guests a chance to see species behaving more naturally. Visitors in February may spot polar bears swimming and playing, snow leopards moving along rocky habitats, or red pandas climbing and exploring in the crisp air.
The quieter winter crowds also allow for a more relaxed experience. With fewer visitors, families can enjoy closer views of animals and move comfortably along the Zoo’s wide, walkable pathways. Several indoor exhibits are available throughout the grounds, giving guests a chance to warm up while continuing their visit.
Seneca Park Zoo staff emphasize that the layout and winter accommodations make the Zoo accessible and enjoyable for guests of all ages, even during colder days. From open-air habitats to climate-controlled indoor spaces, families can plan their visit at their own pace.
To help visitors save even more, the Zoo is offering a $2 discount on adult tickets purchased online at senecaparkzoo.org/tickets. The Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the last entry permitted at 3 p.m. The free youth admission applies only on the same day as the adult ticket purchase.
With Free Youth February back in action, Seneca Park Zoo is offering families a simple opportunity to connect with nature, learn about wildlife, and enjoy time together—without stretching the family budget during the winter months.
