Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and Rochester Mayor Malik Evans issue a unified statement highlighting shared priorities for regional progress
Monroe County, New York – Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and Rochester Mayor Malik Evans issued a joint statement this week welcoming a major proposed state investment that they say could reshape the region’s economic future.
The statement centers on Governor Kathy Hochul’s plan to direct $300 million toward Monroe County and the City of Rochester, a move local leaders describe as both timely and essential. At a moment when many municipalities across the country are navigating economic headwinds, Bello and Evans say the proposal sends a clear signal of confidence in the region’s capacity to grow and adapt.
“We’re grateful for Governor Kathy Hochul’s leadership and continued commitment to Monroe County and the City of Rochester, including the proposed $300 million investment that will fuel economic development in our community.” The leaders emphasized that the funding is expected to play a direct role in strengthening the local economy by encouraging job creation and supporting existing employers while also attracting new businesses to the area.
“This funding will help drive job creation, support and attract local businesses, cultivate innovative economic development projects, and strengthen key industries throughout Rochester and Monroe County.” According to the statement, those industries include both long-established sectors and emerging fields that rely on innovation, workforce development, and long-term planning.
Bello and Evans also pointed to the broader message behind the governor’s proposal, noting that it reflects trust in the region’s workforce and its ability to deliver results. “At a time when many communities are facing uncertainty, Governor Hochul’s proposal demonstrates confidence in our potential and belief in our local workforce.”
The joint statement describes Hochul as a consistent advocate for upstate New York, particularly when it comes to economic growth beyond the state’s largest metropolitan areas. “Governor Hochul is a true champion for Upstate communities, and we appreciate her partnership and leadership in prioritizing our economic growth.”
Looking ahead, the county executive and the mayor stressed that collaboration will be key if the funding is approved. “We look forward to working with our state delegation and local partners to ensure these resources deliver meaningful, lasting benefits for our residents, families, and business community.”
Local officials say the proposal represents not just an investment of dollars, but an opportunity to build a more resilient and competitive regional economy for years to come.
