Town partners with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to strengthen traffic enforcement and improve road safety for drivers and pedestrians
Penfield, New York – Local officials in the Town of Penfield are moving quickly to address ongoing concerns about traffic and pedestrian safety by strengthening their partnership with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Following recent discussions with Sheriff Todd Baxter and representatives from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the town will begin increasing traffic enforcement efforts immediately.
Town leadership has made clear that roadway safety is a top priority, particularly as residents continue to raise concerns about speeding and dangerous driving patterns. The renewed enforcement effort is intended to address those issues directly, with a visible presence aimed at encouraging safer driving behavior across the community.
As part of the initiative, deputies will focus closely on speeding along some of Penfield’s busiest and most heavily traveled roads. Penfield Road and Empire Boulevard have been identified as key corridors where excessive speed has been a persistent concern. Officials believe that targeted enforcement on these roadways will help reduce risky driving and improve overall safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
In addition to major roadways, attention will also be given to specific intersections that have seen higher levels of traffic issues. Among them is the intersection of Routes 250 and 441, an area known for heavy traffic flow and complex turning movements. Increased enforcement at problem intersections is expected to help reduce violations and lower the risk of crashes.
Beyond issuing citations, the town’s approach also includes a data-driven component. Town officials plan to work closely with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to review detailed traffic incident data collected across Penfield. This information will provide a clearer picture of where and why accidents are occurring, allowing officials to move beyond short-term enforcement and toward longer-term solutions.
By analyzing this data together, the Town of Penfield and MCSO aim to make informed decisions about future safety measures. The findings will also support advocacy efforts with the New York State Department of Transportation, particularly when it comes to seeking improvements at heavily trafficked state-controlled intersections within the town. These improvements could include changes to traffic patterns, signage, or other safety features designed to reduce crashes.
Town leaders emphasized that enforcement alone is not the end goal, but rather one part of a broader effort to protect residents. The collaboration with the Sheriff’s Office reflects a shared commitment to proactive problem-solving and community-focused policing.
Officials expressed appreciation for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and its willingness to partner with the town on this initiative. With increased enforcement now underway and further analysis planned, Penfield leaders say the effort represents an important step toward safer roads and a safer community for everyone who lives, works, and travels through the town.
