Monroe County, New York – Monroe County is set to embrace the heart of winter with one of its most anticipated seasonal gatherings as County Executive Adam Bello invites residents to Winterfest 2026 at Mendon Ponds Park. The annual celebration will take place this Saturday, Jan. 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a full afternoon of outdoor fun, entertainment, and family-friendly activities spread throughout the park.

Winterfest has become a cold-weather tradition for many families across the county, drawing visitors of all ages who are eager to enjoy the season rather than hide from it. This year’s event continues that tradition while also bringing in several new features designed to add fresh energy to a familiar favorite.

Throughout the park, attendees can expect a wide range of free activities. Wagon rides provided by Heberle Stables will once again carry visitors along scenic winter paths, while younger guests will have the chance to meet Rochester Red Wings mascots Spikes and Mittsy. Adding something new to the lineup, Winterfest 2026 will feature an interactive musical performance by Mister Greene, offering a hands-on experience that blends music and movement for children and families.

County Executive Bello said this year’s event reflects both growth and community spirit. “With winter now in full swing, we’re excited to once again welcome residents to Mendon Ponds Park to experience Winterfest 2026,” said County Executive Bello. “This year, we’re proud to expand our offerings introducing new vendors, food, activities, and performers. I encourage everyone to mark their calendars for this day of family fun.”

For those who prefer a more active start to the day, Winterfest will again include the Winterfest Hot Cocoa Races, now in their second year. Hosted by Fleet Feet and YellowJacket Racing, the races begin at 10 a.m. from Stewart Lodge, giving runners a head start before the main festival begins. Participants can choose from a Trail 5k, a Road 5k, or a half-mile Children’s Race, making the event accessible for seasoned runners and first-time racers alike. Registration and race details are available through YellowJacket Racing.

The setting for Winterfest plays a major role in its appeal. Mendon Ponds Park is the largest of Monroe County’s 22 parks and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its 2,500 acres include woodlands, ponds, wetlands, and unique glacial landforms, offering a striking winter backdrop for the day’s events.

County officials encourage residents to dress warmly, plan to explore different areas of the park, and enjoy everything Winterfest has to offer. Additional updates and event information can be found through the Monroe County Parks Department website, as Winterfest 2026 promises another lively celebration of winter in one of the region’s most treasured outdoor spaces.
