Penfield, New York – The Penfield Town Board formally launched its work for the year ahead during its 2026 Organizational Meeting, held Wednesday, January 7, laying out leadership roles, committee assignments, and liaison responsibilities that will guide town operations through the end of the year.

A key development at the meeting was the appointment of Catherine Dean to the Town Board. Dean was selected to fill the vacancy created when Kevin Berry assumed the role of Town Supervisor, leaving his previous board seat open. Her appointment runs through the end of 2026, ensuring continuity on the board as it moves forward with policy decisions, oversight, and community engagement.

With Dean’s appointment finalized, the full Town Board for 2026 now consists of Supervisor Kevin Berry, Catherine Dean, Jon Getz, Bill Lang, and Linda Teglash. As part of the organizational actions taken during the meeting, the board also confirmed that Linda Teglash will serve as Deputy Supervisor for the year, a role that positions her to assist the supervisor and step in when necessary.

Beyond filling vacancies, the organizational meeting served as the forum for adopting the Town Board’s committee structure and assignments for 2026. These committees play a central role in shaping policy recommendations, reviewing projects, and providing focused oversight in key areas of town government.

Four standing Town Board committees were established, each with a designated chairperson. Linda Teglash was named chair of the Community Services Committee, which oversees programs and initiatives that directly impact residents’ quality of life. Jon Getz was appointed chair of the Law & Finance Committee, a group responsible for matters related to legal oversight, budgeting, and fiscal policy. Catherine Dean will chair the Public Safety Committee, placing her at the forefront of discussions involving emergency services, safety planning, and coordination with law enforcement agencies. Bill Lang was selected to lead the Public Works Committee, which handles infrastructure, roads, and municipal facilities.

In addition to committee leadership, the board approved an extensive list of liaison assignments connecting Town Board members with local organizations, advisory boards, and partner agencies. These liaison roles are designed to strengthen communication between the town government and the many groups that support civic life in Penfield.

Bill Lang will serve as liaison to the Penfield Webster Ambulance, Fire Districts, Penfield Little League, the Planning Board, and the Zoning Board. His assignments place him in regular contact with emergency response providers, youth organizations, and boards responsible for land use and development.

Jon Getz will act as liaison to the Energy and Environment Conservation Committee, Ethics Board, Health and Wellness Committee, Justice Courts, and Veteran Organizations. These responsibilities reflect a broad portfolio touching on sustainability, ethics oversight, public health, the judicial system, and support for veterans.

Linda Teglash was appointed liaison to Community TV, the Library Board, the Local History Room Advisory Board, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and Watershed Management. Her roles emphasize community engagement, cultural resources, recreational programming, and environmental stewardship.

Catherine Dean will serve as liaison to the Friends of Dayton Corners School House, the Historic Preservation Board, and the Penfield Symphony Orchestra. These assignments connect her closely with organizations focused on preserving local history, protecting historic resources, and supporting the arts.

Supervisor Kevin Berry retained several liaison roles tied to regional coordination and community representation. He will serve as liaison to the Board of Assessment Review, Allen’s Creek Homeowners Association, East Penfield Homeowners Association, Monroe County Sheriff, New York State Police, Penfield Business Chamber, School Districts, Senior Citizens, and the Transportation Committee.

During the meeting, Berry reflected on the significance of the organizational session and the year ahead.

“This organizational meeting marks the beginning of an exciting year for Penfield. The Town Board is committed to thoughtful leadership, open communication, and decisions that serve the best interests of our community.”

The annual organizational meeting is a foundational step for the Town Board, establishing how responsibilities are shared and how residents’ concerns will be addressed throughout the year. With committee chairs named, liaisons assigned, and a full board in place, Penfield officials say they are prepared to tackle ongoing projects and emerging issues in 2026.
