New York – A coordinated law enforcement effort has resulted in an arrest tied to an ongoing narcotics investigation in the city of Geneva, highlighting continued concerns about the spread of dangerous drugs in the Finger Lakes region.

State and local authorities confirmed that the New York State Police Violent Gangs and Narcotics Enforcement Team, known as Troop E-VGNET, has been working alongside the Geneva Police Department, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office in a multi-agency investigation targeting suspected drug trafficking activity. The operation has focused on the Geneva area and has been active for an extended period as investigators gathered evidence and monitored suspected distribution networks.

That investigation reached a key point on January 7, 2026, when officers took Ahmad J. Whitfield, 45, of Geneva, into custody. According to authorities, Whitfield was arrested after allegedly selling a quantity of cocaine mixed with fentanyl to another individual. The transaction was identified and intercepted as part of the broader investigative work being carried out by state and local agencies.

Following his arrest, Whitfield was charged with multiple felony offenses connected to the alleged drug sale and possession. The charges include Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the second degree, classified as an A felony, as well as two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, both B felonies. These charges reflect the serious nature of the substances involved, particularly fentanyl, which continues to pose a major public safety risk due to its high potency.

After being processed by law enforcement, Whitfield was transported to the Ontario County Jail, where he was held pending a Centralized Arraignment Part, commonly referred to as a CAP arraignment. Officials did not release additional details regarding court dates or whether further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

Law enforcement agencies involved in the case emphasized the importance of cooperation between departments when addressing complex narcotics cases. By combining resources, intelligence, and personnel, officials say they are better equipped to disrupt drug trafficking activity and reduce the flow of illegal substances into local communities.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have indicated that additional developments may be announced as the case moves forward through the legal process.
