New York – A deadly rollover crash shut down part of the Northern State Parkway early Christmas morning, leaving a young man dead and prompting an ongoing investigation by New York State Police.

Authorities said troopers were called to the eastbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway just after daybreak, at approximately 6:24 a.m. on December 25, 2025. The crash happened just east of Exit 41, near Wolf Hill Road, in the town of Huntington in Suffolk County. The report indicated a single-vehicle accident, and emergency crews were dispatched immediately.

When state police arrived at the scene, they found the driver in the roadway. He was identified as Osmond Duarte, 21. Officials confirmed that Duarte was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no additional injuries were reported.

According to the preliminary investigation, Duarte had been driving a 2011 Hino commercial flatbed truck eastbound on the parkway. Police determined the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed before the driver lost control. The truck struck the center median and then rolled over. During the crash, Duarte was ejected from the vehicle.

The early-morning incident unfolded during a time of typically lighter holiday traffic, but the crash still caused disruptions as troopers secured the area and began their investigation. Portions of the parkway were affected while emergency responders worked at the scene and gathered evidence.

State police emphasized that the investigation is still active. Troopers are continuing to review the circumstances leading up to the crash, including the vehicle’s movement before it struck the median. No further details about contributing factors have been released at this time.

“This investigation is ongoing. Additional updates will be posted to the New York State Police Newsroom as they become available.”

The fatal crash serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of high speeds, especially on parkways where conditions can change quickly. Authorities have not announced when the investigation is expected to be completed, and they are urging motorists to remain cautious and follow speed limits, particularly during the holiday season.
