Rochester, New York – The latest issue of Dialogue magazine from Wilmot Cancer Institute arrives at a moment of major change, capturing a period of momentum and optimism for one of the region’s most important medical institutions. Centered on the theme “Moving forward in a new era,” the publication reflects the progress Wilmot has made since receiving a landmark designation from the National Cancer Institute in March 2025, a recognition that placed Wilmot among the most elite cancer centers in the United States.

That designation marked more than a symbolic achievement. It opened the door to new opportunities, expanded resources, and national recognition that is already reshaping Wilmot’s future. One of the most immediate and visible impacts highlighted in the magazine is the recruitment of top-tier research and clinical talent. Dialogue features short profiles of four faculty members who recently joined the University of Rochester and Wilmot Cancer Institute—moves that would not have been possible without the prestige and support tied to NCI designation.

Those new faculty members include Ryan Fields, MD; Tanya Mayadas, PhD; David McConkey, PhD; and Lori Medeiros, MD. Together, they bring deep experience across a wide spectrum of cancer research, from basic laboratory science to patient-centered clinical care. In the magazine, they share their enthusiasm for Wilmot’s collaborative culture and express excitement about contributing new ideas and energy during this pivotal time. Their arrival signals a strengthening of Wilmot’s research mission and its ability to translate discoveries into real-world treatments.

Beyond scientific growth, the 2025 edition of Dialogue also tells powerful human stories that reflect the institute’s impact on patients and families. The cover features Art Sullivan, a man from Spencerport whose life has been transformed by a new treatment for brain cancer. His story, detailed inside the magazine, highlights both medical innovation and the leadership of Wilmot’s neuro-oncology program, offering readers a reminder of what progress truly means at the patient level.

Philanthropy also plays a prominent role in this issue. Dialogue recognizes a generous gift to Wilmot from University of Rochester Board Chair Emeritus Robert Goergen and his wife, Pam, underscoring the importance of community support in sustaining research, care, and education. Their contribution reflects long-standing confidence in Wilmot’s mission and future direction.

The magazine also looks back on a record-breaking year for Wilmot Warrior Weekend, the institute’s signature fundraising event. The milestone year demonstrates growing public engagement and reinforces the idea that Wilmot’s new era is being built not only in laboratories and clinics, but through shared commitment across the region.

Taken together, the latest Dialogue magazine paints a clear picture of an institution in motion—grounded in progress, strengthened by recognition, and focused on what comes next.
