Monroe County, New York – Monroe County is already looking ahead to the colder months, and this week officials confirmed that one of the region’s favorite winter traditions will be back in full swing. County Executive Adam Bello announced that Monroe County Winterfest will return to Mendon Ponds Park in January 2026, bringing families together for a day filled with free outdoor activities, seasonal treats, and plenty of fresh air.

“Winterfest is a reminder that even in the winter months, our parks system has so much to offer,” said County Executive Bello. “With games, activities, great food, and more, Winterfest is a great opportunity for families to get outside and enjoy some winter fun.” His message underscored the county’s ongoing push to encourage outdoor recreation year-round, especially in a park as vast and diverse as Mendon Ponds.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, with activities scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spread throughout the park, families can expect a mix of classic winter fun and community-oriented programs suitable for visitors of all ages. The county says everything from games to demonstrations will be free, making it an accessible option for anyone looking for a way to enjoy the winter season without spending much.

Hosted by Fleet Feet and YellowJacket Racing, the races offer something for runners of all ages and abilities. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. at Stewart Lodge and includes three separate options: a Trail 5K, a Road 5K, and a Children’s Race. Registration information and additional details are posted on the organizers’ website for those interested in participating.

Mendon Ponds Park, known for its sweeping terrain and geological landmarks, provides a fitting backdrop for the festivities. As the largest of Monroe County’s 22 parks, its 2,500 acres include ponds, woodlands, wetlands, and rare glacial formations that draw visitors throughout the year. The park’s place on the National Register of Historic Places highlights its natural and cultural significance, making Winterfest not just a fun event but also a chance for residents to connect with one of the county’s most treasured outdoor spaces.
