City of Rochester Public Market expands Thanksgiving week shopping options for families preparing their holiday meals

Rochester, New York – As Thanksgiving week approaches, the City of Rochester Public Market is preparing for one of its most active stretches of the year. Located at 280 N. Union St., the popular marketplace will swing its gates open early in the week, giving residents a chance to gather fresh foods and locally sourced ingredients before the holiday rush kicks into high gear.

The Market will operate on Tuesday, Nov. 25, and Wednesday, Nov. 26, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those two days often draw shoppers who prefer the lively, open-air atmosphere to the crowded grocery aisles that come with Thanksgiving week. Many families head there for produce, baked goods, meats, and specialty items they can’t always find elsewhere, and the mid-week schedule offers extra breathing room for anyone preparing a big meal.

On Thanksgiving Day itself, Thursday, Nov. 27, the Market will take a brief pause and remain closed, giving vendors and customers alike a full day to celebrate. Regular business will resume on Saturday, Nov. 29, when the weekend bustle returns.

For SNAP recipients, the Market Token Center will mirror much of the week’s adjusted schedule. It will open Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., then again on Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The token program remains an important link between residents and fresh, affordable food—especially during the holiday season when household needs tend to rise.

But the week doesn’t end with Thanksgiving leftovers. On Sunday, Nov. 30, the Market will kick off its annual Holidays at the Market series. The first of four special events will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring seasonal vendors, festive goods, and the first wave of holiday shoppers ready to explore. More details about the series can be found at the city’s website, which outlines all upcoming dates and activities.
