Police locate driver after pickup truck strikes pedestrian and crashes into building in Ontario town
Wayne County, New York – A chaotic afternoon scene unfolded in the town of Ontario, Wayne County, when a pickup truck struck a pedestrian and then slammed into a building before speeding away. The incident occurred on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at around 1:03 p.m., outside Bill Gray’s restaurant on State Route 104.
Troopers from the New York State Police (SP Williamson) arrived quickly after receiving reports of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. They found a man suffering from injuries to his lower body. Emergency responders from Wayne County Ambulance provided immediate aid before transporting him to Strong Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
According to the preliminary investigation, a dark-colored Ford pickup truck had been seen driving around the side of the building just moments before the crash. The truck struck the pedestrian and continued moving, colliding with part of the structure before leaving the scene without stopping. Witnesses at the location described a chaotic few moments as the vehicle fled the area.
Working closely with responding Troopers, officers from the Webster Police Department joined the effort to locate the driver. Their coordinated search led authorities to the neighboring town of Webster, where they discovered both the suspect and the vehicle involved.
Police identified the driver as Jessie Adams, 45, who has no permanent address. Adams was taken into custody without incident shortly after being found. He was issued multiple traffic tickets, which are returnable to the Town of Ontario Court at a later date.
“The New York State Police were assisted on scene by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Ontario Fire Department, Wayne County EMS, and the Webster Police Department,” officials said in their report.
While the injured pedestrian remains under medical care, law enforcement continues to investigate the full circumstances leading up to the crash. Authorities have not released details about what might have caused Adams to drive onto the side of the building or whether impairment or recklessness played a role.
Residents who frequent the busy stretch of Route 104 expressed concern over the incident, noting that the area sees heavy lunchtime traffic and pedestrian movement. Local businesses temporarily halted operations while crews cleared the area and assessed the damage to the restaurant’s exterior.
“This investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available,” the New York State Police confirmed.
For now, the community is left shaken but relieved that the driver was located swiftly. As police continue to piece together the events of that afternoon, the focus remains on the recovery of the injured pedestrian and the pursuit of justice for a reckless act that could easily have had an even more tragic outcome.
