Town of Penfield renews Community Choice Aggregation program and announces upcoming public information sessions for residents

Penfield, New York – The Town of Penfield is moving forward with a renewed commitment to sustainable energy. In August, the Penfield Town Board approved the continuation of its Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program, ensuring that residents will remain part of a collective energy-buying plan designed to stabilize rates and increase renewable electricity options.
Good Energy will continue as the program’s administrator, while Constellation New Energy remains the energy supplier. This setup has been in place since the program first launched and will carry over into the new contract term. With the renewal, new fixed rates are scheduled to begin with the December 2025 billing cycle.
Like the previous program, residents will continue to have two options. Penfield Green, the default product, provides 50 percent renewable electricity. For those who want to commit fully to clean energy, Penfield 100 supplies 100 percent renewable electricity. Both choices give residents a path to support renewable power without having to change their daily habits or make equipment upgrades at home.
The new two-year fixed rates reflect rising energy costs across the state and beyond. Under the renewal, Penfield Green will cost $0.0982 per kilowatt hour, while Penfield 100 will be slightly higher at $0.10293 per kilowatt hour. Town officials emphasize that these rates will remain locked in throughout the term, protecting residents from sudden price fluctuations in the energy market.
All eligible households are automatically enrolled in the program under New York State law. However, participation is completely voluntary, and residents can opt out at any time without penalty. Those who previously chose to opt out will remain outside of the program unless they decide to rejoin.
Public outreach remains an important part of the process. Several opportunities have been set up to help residents understand the details of the renewal. Public information sessions led by Good Energy are scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, at 5 p.m. in the Penfield Town Hall auditorium. These sessions will also be livestreamed by Penfield Community TV for those unable to attend in person.
In addition, two online webinars are planned for Thursday, October 9, at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Links to join the virtual events will be available on the program’s website. Officials say these sessions will cover program benefits, costs, and options for opting out or switching between products.
“With the fall season just beginning, I encourage golfers to take advantage of the reduced greens fees at our beautiful county golf courses,” said County Executive Bello. “It’s the best golf deal in the area — take advantage of the cool weather, enjoy our upgraded golf cart paths, and get your last rounds in before winter arrives.”
