Rochester, New York – Traffic along a busy stretch of Culver Road is expected to slow down in the coming days as resurfacing work gets underway, with impacts stretching to the I-490 ramps that connect to the area.

According to officials, crews will begin work on Culver Road between Canterbury Road and Monroe Avenue on Saturday, September 6, and the project will run through Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The effort is aimed at giving the roadway a much-needed upgrade, but drivers will need to be patient as disruptions unfold.

As part of the schedule, the I-490 eastbound and westbound on- and off-ramps at Culver Road will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on two separate dates — Saturday, September 6, and Saturday, September 13. Detour signs will be set up in both directions to help guide motorists around the closures.

Officials are stressing the importance of caution for anyone traveling through the area. Drivers can expect lane shifts, delays, and parking restrictions while the work zone is active. Pedestrians are also being advised to stay alert and to respect the posted instructions.

“Drivers should expect delays, lane shifts and parking restrictions. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to follow all posted signs and flaggers in the work zone. If possible, please use alternate routes.”

With the combination of ramp closures and resurfacing, local traffic patterns will see significant changes on the affected dates. Those heading into or out of the city via I-490 may want to plan extra time into their trips or choose alternate roadways to avoid getting stuck.

The project is expected to wrap up by September 16, but in the meantime, transportation officials are asking for cooperation and patience. The short-term inconvenience, they note, will ultimately result in a smoother, safer ride for everyone who travels this corridor on a daily basis.
