Penfield, New York – A powerful and eye-opening environmental program is coming to Penfield this August, as Penfield Recreation teams up with Color Penfield Green to host a unique three-night event focused entirely on climate change.

Titled “The Week: Worldwide Action to Acknowledge our Environmental Crisis,” the event will run from Tuesday, August 19 through Thursday, August 21, taking place each night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Dolomite Lodge. It’s open to all ages and completely free to attend, but advance registration is required.

Far from a typical lecture or slideshow presentation, “The Week” is built around a series of short films and guided discussions meant to spark meaningful conversations and reflection about the climate crisis. Each night, attendees will watch one part of a carefully crafted three-part documentary, followed by open dialogue and group reflection.

Color Penfield Green, the local organization co-hosting the event, describes the program as a chance for the community to dig deeper into an issue that’s often overwhelming or misunderstood.

“The Week” is a global environmental movement designed to inspire urgent action on climate change. It is a structured three-session program that encouraged participants to think deeply about the climate crisis through guided discussions, short films, and group reflection.

The experience is described as more than just watching a documentary — it’s a collective, community-based journey meant to raise awareness, spark emotional engagement, and motivate action.

“This of this as a community conference, an opportunity to be present, share, and engage with others. Yes! It is longer than a football game, but shorter than a season of Game of Thrones, and it’s a powerful, unique experience.”

Organizers hope that by bringing people together in a shared space, the program can cut through the noise and help participants truly connect with the reality of climate change — both intellectually and emotionally. Whether you come with friends, family, coworkers, or alone, you’ll be part of a collective learning experience that’s designed to leave a lasting impact.

“Bring the family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, or come alone for this shared learning journey.”

While the event is free to attend, space is limited, and registration is required. Those interested can sign up online at webtrac.penfield.org, or get more information by calling the Penfield Recreation office at (585) 340-8655.

With wildfires, floods, and record-breaking heatwaves becoming more common around the world, the urgency of addressing climate change has never been clearer. “The Week” offers a chance to stop, reflect, and begin thinking about what action — big or small — we can all take to help build a more sustainable future.
