New York State Police launch investigation after deadly motorcycle and dump truck crash in Wayne County

Marion, New York – A devastating crash in Wayne County has claimed the life of a 45-year-old man after his motorcycle collided with a dump truck on a quiet rural road. The fatal incident occurred on Friday afternoon, July 11, 2025, along Parker Road in the town of Marion.
According to authorities, the crash took place at approximately 4:05 p.m., when the motorcyclist was heading southbound on Parker Road. Investigators say the motorcycle struck a dump truck that had come to a stop in the same lane. The impact proved fatal. Emergency responders pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released as officials work to notify next of kin.
The operator of the dump truck, 60-year-old James A. Suhr of Marion, remained on the scene following the crash. Authorities confirmed that Suhr cooperated fully with the investigation.
“Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Preliminary Breath Test were administered, and no signs of impairment were observed,” the New York State Police noted in a statement.
Following protocol in such serious incidents, both the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit responded to assist with the ongoing investigation. Additionally, the Wayne County Coroner was present at the scene.
The stretch of Parker Road where the crash occurred remained closed for several hours as investigators worked to piece together exactly what led to the deadly collision. Tire marks and debris lined the road as officers took measurements and photographs, while bystanders and neighbors looked on quietly from a distance.
The crash has left the small community of Marion shaken. Though rural traffic is typically light, the combination of heavy equipment and smaller vehicles always carries potential risk.
No charges have been filed at this time, and police say the investigation is ongoing. It remains unclear why the motorcycle struck the stationary dump truck, but authorities will continue examining mechanical evidence and reviewing the circumstances.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the New York State Police.
As summer traffic increases and motorcycles are more frequently on the road, officials are once again urging drivers and riders alike to remain alert and cautious.
This tragic accident stands as another grim reminder of how quickly a routine ride can turn fatal.
