New York State Police investigate head-on collision in Delhi that leaves one man dead and trooper seriously injured

Delhi, New York – A serious head-on collision in the town of Delhi on Friday afternoon has left one man dead and a New York State Trooper hospitalized with serious injuries. The crash occurred on July 11, 2025, shortly after 4:00 p.m. on State Highway 28, near Glen Burnie Road.
According to authorities, the crash involved two vehicles — a pick-up truck and an SUV — traveling in opposite directions. The initial investigation reveals that 71-year-old Roger Hadley of Andes, NY was driving a pick-up truck southbound when, for reasons not yet known, his vehicle crossed over the double solid yellow line and entered the northbound lane. The truck struck an SUV head-on that was traveling north.
Hadley was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
The SUV was being driven by New York State Trooper Anna Aulino, who was off duty at the time and on her way home in her personal vehicle. Trooper Aulino suffered serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
Her injuries, while serious, do not appear to be life-threatening. “Trooper Aulino graduated from the New York State Police Academy in 2023 and is assigned to Troop C,” authorities stated.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. At this point, it’s unclear what caused Hadley to veer across the center line.
In the aftermath of the collision, the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) arrived at the scene to conduct a full reconstruction. Investigators were seen taking detailed measurements and analyzing vehicle positions to piece together the chain of events leading to the crash.
Given that a member of law enforcement was involved in the incident, the New York State Office of the Attorney General has also been notified and is independently investigating, as per standard protocol.
The response to the scene was significant, involving multiple agencies. “The New York State Police thanks the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, Delhi Police Department, Delhi Fire Department, Bovina Fire Department, AMR, Bloomville Fire Department, Walton Fire Department, Andes Fire Department, the Delaware County Medical Examiner and the New York State Department of Transportation for their assistance on scene.”
The stretch of State Highway 28 where the crash happened was closed for several hours while emergency crews worked and investigators gathered evidence.
Authorities are asking any witnesses who may have been in the area around the time of the crash to come forward as the investigation continues. For now, the community of Delhi mourns the loss of one resident and keeps a hopeful watch on the recovery of a young state trooper.
