Summer reading officially begins across Rochester as young artists are recognized for winning the library’s teen sticker design contest

Rochester, New York – The Central Library’s Teen Center was buzzing with excitement today as Mayor Malik D. Evans and Library Director Emily Clasper officially launched the Rochester Public Library’s 2025 Summer Reading Program and proudly revealed the winners of the annual Teen Sticker Contest.
With school winding down and the warmer months ahead, the library system is throwing open its doors to offer local youth a fun and enriching way to spend their summer. At the heart of this initiative is a call to read more, explore creativity, and take full advantage of the city’s public library resources—all at no cost to residents.
“Summer break is around the corner and our libraries will be open all summer long to help students achieve their summer reading goals,” said Mayor Evans during the event. “We encourage all Rochesterians to get their library cards and enjoy all the library has to offer for free – all in comfortable air conditioning. Heading to the library is also the best way to collect a sticker designed by one of our very own talented young designers – make sure to get yours before they run out!”
This year’s Summer Reading Program comes with the uplifting theme, Color Our World, aiming to inspire readers of all ages to discover new stories, fresh ideas, and exciting perspectives. Rochester librarians have already begun curating lists of recommended books tailored to readers young and old, and all are encouraged to stop by their local branch for personalized suggestions.
As part of the kickoff celebration, the winners of the Teen Sticker Contest were announced—a creative competition that invited young people from across the city to design original stickers that reflect the spirit and importance of libraries. Out of all submissions, six designs stood out and have now been turned into collectible stickers available at branch locations while supplies last.
This year’s talented winners are:
• Matilda Jane Gross – Winton Branch Library
• Dre’Quan King – Sully Branch Library
• Odie J. Kribs – Douglass Branch Library
• Faith J. Kribs – Sully Branch Library
• Nashiely Castro – Central Branch Library
• Casha Satolic – Sully Branch Library

These young artists used their imagination and artistic flair to capture what libraries mean to them—and now, their work will be proudly shared with library patrons all over Rochester.
Library Director Emily Clasper highlighted how much more libraries offer beyond just books: “Our libraries offer a wide variety of resources, but I will always encourage our young people to explore the power of a good book. There are so many classic and brand-new books, there’s literally something for everyone.”
And that’s just the beginning. New initiatives this summer are aimed at making library use even more rewarding. Anyone who signs up for a new Rochester Public Library card between now and August 31 will automatically be entered into a monthly raffle. Winners will get to choose one media item valued at up to $30—a book, a movie, or a music CD—and the library branch where they signed up will also receive a copy for others to check out.
Three winners will be selected, one for each summer month—June, July, and August. The prize giveaway is funded by the Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library (FFRPL), whose generous support continues to enhance the library’s programming year after year.
A Rochester Public Library card unlocks a treasure trove of services. From free Wi-Fi and public computers to music, movies, workshops, and cultural events, the Monroe County Library System connects the community to tools for learning, creativity, and growth.
So whether you’re looking to lose yourself in a fantasy novel, learn a new skill at a free workshop, or just find a cool spot to relax and read this summer, the city’s libraries are ready to welcome you.
For those eager to start, visit your nearest library branch or explore options online at roccitylibrary.org/location to see what’s happening near you.
The summer reading season is officially underway—and thanks to the Rochester Public Library, the adventure begins with just a card, a book, and a whole lot of imagination.
