Drivers in the Town of Hamlin will face a four-month closure on Redman Road as construction crews replace a deteriorating bridge

Monroe County, New York – Starting Tuesday, May 27, drivers in the Town of Hamlin will need to find a new way around Redman Road. Monroe County’s Department of Transportation has announced that a portion of the road will be completely shut down to allow for major bridge work.
The closure affects the stretch between Jacobs Road and Morton Road and is scheduled to last for just over four months—ending Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 5 p.m.
The county says the closure is essential for replacing an aging bridge, a task that can’t be completed safely with traffic moving through the area. “It is necessary to close this portion of the road for repairs from 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 through 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2025 for a bridge replacement project.”

This section of Redman Road serves as a well-used connector for local residents and commuters alike. With summer activities, farm traffic, and school prep all on the horizon, the long closure will likely be felt by many.
To help guide drivers around the affected zone, Monroe County will post an official detour. “Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. A detour will be posted.” Local officials are urging drivers to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time during the months-long disruption.
While some residents may be frustrated by the inconvenience, county transportation officials emphasize that the work is necessary and will lead to long-term safety improvements. Once completed, the new bridge is expected to offer better structural integrity and improve the reliability of this key route.
No additional closures beyond the Redman Road section were announced at this time. However, local authorities will continue monitoring traffic flow in nearby areas to ensure the detour runs smoothly.
More updates will be provided as the project progresses. For now, residents and travelers are encouraged to stay informed, follow the posted signs, and remain patient as the county works to improve its infrastructure.
