RIT takes a bold step in international education by launching a new academic location in Tirana, Albania

Rochester, New York – Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is expanding its global footprint with a new academic hub in Tirana, the capital of Albania. This marks a significant step for the university as it strengthens its international presence and brings American-style higher education to more students around the world.
The announcement was made during a formal event in Tirana, where local educators, international partners, and representatives from RIT gathered to mark the beginning of a new chapter. The new location—RIT Tirana—is the result of a strategic partnership between RIT Kosovo and the Harry Fultz Foundation, a long-standing educational institution in Albania.
Classes are set to begin in the fall of 2025, offering students in the region two cutting-edge Bachelor of Science programs: Computing Information Technology and Electrical Engineering Technology. These programs are designed to prepare students for high-demand careers and provide them with hands-on learning experiences.
“This is not just the launch of a new location for RIT programs; it is the beginning of an exciting journey to provide transformative education and global opportunities for students in this region,” stated Kamal Shahrabi, president of RIT Kosovo. “Through our innovative programs, hands-on learning approach, and strong industry connections, we are equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in an ever-evolving global economy.”
The new site adds to RIT’s growing international network. In addition to its main campus in Rochester, New York, RIT operates campuses in Los Angeles, Dubai, Croatia, and Kosovo. Each location is part of the university’s broader goal to foster global understanding and academic excellence across borders.
James Myers, associate provost for International Education and Global Programs, emphasized the importance of the move: “We are delighted to add Albania to our constellation of global locations. With 21,300 students in more than 200 career-oriented and professional programs, RIT is internationally recognized and ranked for its leadership in technology, the arts, and design. We are proud of more than 150,000 RIT alumni who come from more than 100 countries.”
The new campus in Tirana is expected to attract students not only from Albania but from neighboring countries in the Western Balkans, offering them access to a U.S.-based curriculum without having to travel far from home. It also underscores RIT’s mission to provide accessible, forward-thinking education that meets the demands of a changing world.
With this expansion, RIT continues to build on its reputation as a global leader in experiential learning and interdisciplinary education. For students in Albania and the surrounding region, it opens a new door to opportunities that are international in scope but rooted in local needs.
