Albany, New York – A 27-year-old Albany man is facing serious charges after a multi-agency investigation led to his arrest for possessing and promoting child pornography. Authorities say the arrest is the result of a cyber tip and a coordinated effort between state and federal law enforcement.

On May 9, Angel J. Deleon was taken into custody by State Police based in Latham. The arrest was made with the help of the Troop G Computer Crimes Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Investigators say Deleon was charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class D felony, and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class E felony.

The case began with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), a national nonprofit organization that works to help identify and rescue exploited children. After receiving the tip, law enforcement launched an investigation that led them to Deleon’s residence in Albany.

On May 8, a search warrant was executed at Deleon’s home. Investigators reportedly found images that were consistent with child sexual exploitation. Authorities say the content uncovered during the search led directly to the charges filed against Deleon.

Deleon was arrested at his residence and brought to the State Police station in Latham for processing. From there, he was taken to Albany City Court for arraignment. The judge ordered him held at the Albany County Correctional Facility, with bail set at $2,500 cash, $2,500 bond, or a $5,000 partially secured bond.

At this time, no additional details have been released about the nature or extent of the materials involved. Investigators did not indicate whether any local victims had been identified but emphasized that the case remains active.

Officials stressed the importance of continued collaboration between state police, federal agencies, and nonprofit watchdog groups in tackling crimes against children.

The New York State Police have not commented further on the ongoing investigation, but they have urged anyone with information related to this case or similar offenses to come forward.

“Protecting vulnerable children from exploitation is a top priority,” a law enforcement spokesperson said. “Thanks to strong partnerships and digital tracking tools, we’re able to act swiftly when reports like these come in.”
