Monroe County, New York – Drivers in the Town of Perinton should prepare for an overnight road closure next week, as the Monroe County Department of Transportation has announced that a stretch of Kreag Road will be temporarily closed for two nights.

The closure affects the portion of Kreag Road located between NYS Route 96 and Sully’s Trail. The road will be shut down from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. on both Wednesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 8, 2025. These closures are part of the ongoing New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) I-490 bridge rehabilitation project, which has required periodic disruptions in the area.

The county says the nighttime closure is necessary to allow crews to safely complete work on the nearby bridge without disrupting heavy daytime traffic.

A posted detour will be in place to guide drivers around the affected section. Local officials are urging the public to allow extra travel time and to “seek alternate routes” during the closure windows.

The NYSDOT has been working on multiple bridge rehabilitation efforts along the I-490 corridor in recent months, and this particular portion of the project is expected to improve long-term safety and travel conditions.

No daytime closures are expected at this time, and emergency services will be informed to ensure continued access if needed. However, residents and regular commuters are encouraged to plan ahead.

The Monroe County DOT emphasized the importance of safety for both workers and travelers during this phase of the project. “It is necessary to close this portion of the road from 9 p.m.

until 7 a.m. on both Wednesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 8, 2025 for the NYSDOT I-490 bridge rehabilitation project.”

Anyone traveling through Perinton during those dates is advised to stay alert for signage and to remain cautious near work zones.

More updates will be shared as the project progresses. For now, local drivers should mark their calendars and map out a detour if Kreag Road is part of their usual route.
