Pittsford Dog Park will soon require key card access as part of Monroe County System upgrade

Pittsford, New York – Big changes are on the way for dog lovers in Pittsford, as the town prepares to upgrade security at its popular dog park. In collaboration with Monroe County, the Pittsford Dog Park will soon shift to a key card access system, bringing it in line with other parks in the county’s network.
The installation of the new electronic lock system is expected to happen in the coming weeks. Once the change is complete, dog owners will need to use their issued key cards to enter the park. This means that anyone planning to visit the park with their pup should make sure they have their card ready.
“If you previously registered for our dog park and can’t find your key card, you can contact the Monroe County Parks Department at [email protected] or 753-7275 (PARK) for a replacement card,” town officials announced.
The Pittsford Dog Park, located at 34 East Street, is a well-loved spot for local dog owners. It features two separate off-leash areas—one for small dogs and another for larger breeds. With plenty of space to run, climb, and explore, the park is designed to be both fun for pets and relaxing for their owners. Amenities include benches, picnic tables, dog-friendly play structures, and even a washing station for muddy paws. From spring through fall, drinking fountains are available to keep dogs hydrated during playtime.
The park’s thoughtful layout also supports the Town’s dedication to walkability and bikeability. It connects directly to Simon Stone’s Mill trail, making it easy for visitors to stroll or cycle in from surrounding neighborhoods.
As a part of the Monroe County Dog Park system, the Pittsford location requires all dogs to be registered with the county in order to use the facility. Registration ensures all pups are properly vaccinated and helps maintain a safe environment for everyone. Information on how to register can be found on the County’s website at www.monroecounty.gov/parks-DogParks.
The park remains open all year long from 7:00 a.m. until dusk, offering a consistent and reliable space for dog owners to bring their furry companions.
The upcoming upgrade is expected to improve safety and access control at the park, helping to ensure that only registered users are enjoying the space. For residents who already use the park, the key card system may be a small adjustment, but it’s a step toward greater accountability and smoother management.
As the town and county finalize the transition, dog owners are encouraged to prepare ahead of time and reach out for a replacement card if needed. With these updates in place, the Pittsford Dog Park will continue to be a safe, clean, and welcoming place for dogs and their humans alike.
