New ALDI store close to Rochester to begin construction in late 2025 or early 2026

Rochester, New York – Excitement is building in the town of Ontario, Wayne County, as plans move forward to introduce a new ALDI store to the region. The arrival of the popular discount supermarket is poised to bring a fresh shopping option to the local community, emphasizing both value and convenience.
The Ontario Planning Board granted final site plan approval on February 11 for the ALDI store to be located at 1903 Route 104. This strategic placement positions the new store between a Fastrac gas station and convenience store and a Dunkin’ Donuts, promising high visibility and easy access for shoppers. The new ALDI, covering 20,264 square feet, will be slightly smaller than its counterpart at 1733 E. Ridge Road in Irondequoit, which opened its doors last June.
Town Supervisor Ben Aman has expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting that construction is anticipated to begin towards the end of 2025 or early 2026. Aman highlighted the community’s anticipation: “Our residents and our community is really excited for this,” he said. This excitement is not unfounded, as the store is not only a boost to local shopping choices but also a significant contributor to the area’s economic development.
This store will join the limited number of ALDI locations in Wayne County, with the existing store located at 20 Route 31 in Lyons. Interestingly, the ALDI store over the Monroe County line at 915 Ridge Road in Webster remains a closer option for some Ontario residents until the new store becomes operational.
The expansion into Ontario is part of a larger growth strategy by ALDI in the United States. In 2025, the company plans to open more than 225 new stores across the country, marking the largest single-year expansion in its nearly five-decade history in the market. This follows a robust 2024 where the chain launched nearly 120 new locations, bringing its total to more than 2,400 stores nationwide.
ALDI’s aggressive expansion underscores its commitment to offering customers economical shopping options without compromising on quality. The stores are well-known for their unique layout that emphasizes efficiency and cost-saving processes, such as a smaller store footprint and renting shopping carts for a refundable quarter deposit. These factors, combined with ALDI’s private-label items, allow the store to offer quality products at prices typically lower than traditional supermarkets.

The new ALDI store is expected not only to serve the daily needs of Ontario residents but also to act as a catalyst for further retail growth and development in the area. As construction timelines firm up, the town of Ontario looks forward to the job opportunities and enhanced retail landscape that ALDI promises to bring.
